Okinawa Kenpo Karate Kobudo Renme
Grandmaster: Taketo Nakamura
President: Necomedes Flores
Staying together so Okinawa Kenpo can be united and to recognize Taketo Nakamura as the rightful grandmaster of Okinawa Kenpo is our mantra.
We will have an Okinawa Kenpo meeting Jan 21 & 22, 2012 if you have not sent in a photo of yourself to me, please send one so I can mail it to Taketo Nakamura GM, the photo has to be 4 x 6 so he can put it in the Okinawa Kenpo album hall of fame. Not just anyone can apply, you must be a Sensei. This way I can write your name in Japanese on the picture so he can see a face with a name --yours-- this is one good way that he knows there is a following.
The only goal we should have to accomplish this is to practice our karate as I told you all, that Sensei Odo's training methods are the method of Shigeru Nakamura.
Taketo Nakamura is very much into the method of Seikichi Odo's training. He (Taketo) kept talking about Sensei Odo and how much admiration he had for Sensei Odo and his technique.
Then his son Yasushi Nakamura walked in as Taketo and I were talking and looking at a picture of Sensei Odo, me my wife Elodia and my 2 sons, Juan and Gonzalo, doing Pinan Nidan. Then Yasushi's face lit up and commented "that is Sensei Odo" with an expression on his face, like, that is one of the greatest Sensei's of Okinawa.
This to me proved that Sensei Odo was held in high regard from the highest office in Okinawa Kenpo.
So why is there so many Okinawa Kenpo that Taketo doesn't recognize? The answer is because just by doing kata doesn't mean you are doing Okinawa Kenpo. Doing Okinawa Kenpo involves the other aspects in training Shigeru used in Okinawa Kenpo. Such as the proper way to conduct all the training ... hitting the machiwara, basic warmups, punches, blocks, and kicks and also Bogu kumite, stances, walking in naihanchi, seisan, and kata kata kata.
This is what is called Karate Jutsu. Karate that is practiced for combat first and then all the other benefits come into play. Such as self-discipline, good health, learning to solve daily physical or mental problems, zen meditation, learning how to defeat one opponent or ten thousand at the same time, when to fight or not to fight. By fight I mean to deal with life's daily assaults that are thrown against us by man, nature, imagined or real. 90% of our problems are in our head anyway.
The meeting in January 21-22 Saturday and Sunday will deal with positive aspects, such as training in karate as Sensei Odo taught us. And how to eliminate politics. (Bullshit as Taketo Nakamura put it)
So far there are 10 Sensei's attending the Okinawa Kenpo meeting Jan 21-22. This is a once in a lifetime chance, the last meeting was in Okinawa in 1977. I am sure there won't be a gathering this big again
until the next generation. All the ones of the 1977 meeting are dead except me (Necomedes Flores). The one before was in 1938 and the one before that was in 1910. Before then there were no cameras available. So this meeting is important.

Sensei/Dad,
I just got back in town and checked my email. I hope you and Mom had a great Thanksgiving. I can see from your newsletter congratulations are in order for your promotion. I can think of no other person more deserving. There is not another karateman who is more dedicated to his martial art than you. I have stood in the shadows over the years and watched you overcome all means of political BS, mistreatment, and unwarranted punishment. In all that, you have stayed the course and true to your beliefs and values. You are the strongest man I have ever known. I hope and pray that someday I will be half of the karateman you are. If I can do that, I will have accomplished what very few do.
Again Congrats. I know Gonzo, Mom, Juan, your grand-kids (Flores and Webb), and all the karate students you have trained are proud of you.
Your adopted son, HW

On the lighter side we are also now celebrating (extra glass of tea/coffee) our first anniversary of this monthly newsletter. It has been well received by many subscribers and the subscription list has grown and we hope more will continue to show the interest and enthusiasm I've seen in some of the email messages I've received. I have enjoyed making this newsletter for all of you to enjoy at your leisure and will continue to write them as long as I see interest in it ... it is one of the few modern things that we can enjoy to augment our karate experience and communicate with each other. Thanks for your support and hope to continue to send this newsletter for many years to come. Please send your comments or any information related to karate -- thanks.
