There is a Sensei named Jim Wall. He tried to attend but, he got sick in Mississippi on his way to Texas from North Carolina, and it took him 3 days to return home he not only put his life on the line, but he also gave $500 to be used for the purpose of this meeting. This $500 was used to help Sensei's that couldn't pay their way. Another Sensei also gave $500. Pat Whaley. If anyone doesn't call Jim wall, you are being rude and disrespectful. So call him if not but out if the kindness of your heart: (336) 427-3131 and wish him well and thank him for his efforts that he has done for Okinawa Kenpo since 1981, when first meeting Sensei Odo in Yuma Arizona. If anyone doesn't call him you are not helping one of Okinawa Kenpo's finest and most loyal Sensei's ... call him and wish him a speedy recovery and God shall greatly reward you for your kindness to Jim Wall. ... please call him.
The 21-22 Jan meeting was a historic one. There were 6 Sensei's that were in Sensei Odo's Dogo training from 3 to 5 years straight ... in the 70's.

From Israel Velázquez of Puerto Rico
Thanks Sensei Flores and Danny for letting me attend. Never in my years of what I taught was karate have I seen such training, especially the way rank was regarded, almost as if it didn't exist.
I was grateful for having the opportunity to talk to the other Sensei's who spent years in Okinawa with Sensei Odo. Elodia Flores Gonzalo Flores nick Flores Pete Flores George Colon Patrick Whaley . Sensei Nick is carrying on the training in it's entire context, not just a piece if Okinawa Kenpo. This is the way Shigeru Nakamura trained in the basis, kata and Kumite. Thanks to Miss Sensei for her knowledge and experience in Okinawa under Sensei Odo for 5 years. Also thanks for the annual Okinawa Kenpo convention to be held once a year in the first week end of March starting in 2013. And of course for the invitation to come visit him any time and stay at the Seikichi Odo Inn for free.

Subject: My experience at THE FLORES FAMILY DOJO
My experience at the Nick Flores sensei dojo was very special. I am proud to have known the family Flores and share with the brothers of the Okinawa Kenpo Karate Kobudo Renme. The system records and testimonies of those who lived in Okinawa trained by Grand Master Seikishi Odo and other great masters was extremely important and impressive. Gonzo Flores talks about the lineage clarifying many debts and confusion. No doubt his participation was very important. Traditional training taught by the Founder GM Shigeru Nakamura as the Bogu Kumite, Kata and Kobudo was exciting. I can humbly say that being in the Flores family dojo gave true meaning to my 40 years in karate. I have no words to thank, just... " Nije devi du sensei. Sai".
Sincerely,

From Ray Bosques
Hi, my name is Ray Bosques and I'm a student of Orlando Rodriguez Sensei. I was at the OKKKR meeting held at Flores Sensei Dojo on Jan 20th-22nd. Here is my experience of the weekend:
The trip to “Nick” Flores Sensei Dojo and the OKKKR meeting was an experience that I wouldn’t trade for anything in this world. Arriving at the Dojo was like been transported back in time to the mid 1900’s. The design of the Dojo was is splendid; it’s built like the pictures I’ve seen from the ones in Okinawa. It has all the training tools that were used in the past, made from supplies found around anywhere (just like in the old days).
Listening to testimonies of Pat Whaley Sensei, Jorge Colon Sensei and especially “Gonzo” Flores Sensei was very inspiring and educational. “Gonzo” Flores Sensei is a very knowledgeable person and explains everything in such a way that you could actually visualize what he was talking about. He speaks with facts and proof, and we were very fortunate to be there when he spoke about our rich history and other valuable information.
Training with Nick Flores Sensei was a unique experience; it felt like we were actually in Okinawa, it gave us the knowledge needed to understand the true meaning of Okinawa Kenpo Karate Kobudo. He also had a chance to learn and practice Shi-A, and witness Elodia “Mrs. Sensei” Flores Sensei promotion.
It feet so good to workout with the other Sensei exchanging anecdotes, ideas and learning from one another; although we are from different parts of the U.S. we have one thing in common… Okinawa Kenpo Karate Kobudo running though our veins…we are a family.
The experience I gained that weekend made me grow as a martial artist. I’m testimony that the true Okinawa Kenpo Karate Kobudo; the way Shigeru Nakamura O’Sensei intended it to be still lives through us and it will be passed down to the new generations.

I always dreamed to train in the place where karate born, this place is the island of Okinawa, of course an important part of this dream was to train with the masters of my style , Okinawa Kenpo Karate from G.M. Shigueru Nakamura. In the dojo of Flores Sensei I felt like I was in Okinawa living my dream, it was like going back in time and being in the island itself. That was a great feeling, that I will treasure for the rest of of my days. Thanks to Sensei Flores, Flores family members, students and all the Senseis for sharing with me those days.

Dear friends,
Gong Hay Fa Choy! (恭喜发财) (Cantonese) Xin Nian Kuai Le! (新年快乐) (Mandarin) Xing Ni Ju Yi! (新年如意) (Taiwanese) Losha La Tashi Delek! (༄༅།།ལོ་གསར་ལ་བཀྲ་ཤིས་བདེ་ལེགས་ཞུ།) (Tibetan)
Happy New Year of the Black Water Dragon, Ren Chen! (壬 辰).
As you can see there are many ways of saying Happy New Year in the Chinese New Year. The Chinese Lunar calendar year began on January 23rd, however, the true cosmological change in Seasonal and Earth Qi begins on Li Chun (節氣) Day (in Chinese) or Risshun (立春) Day (in Japanese) this year on February 3rd at approximately 6:22 p.m., local Portland, Oregon time. Why two different dates? Classical East Asian Cosmology is founded on both lunar and solar calendars that date back 10,000 years with all corresponding dates, equinoxes, celebrations and auspicious days derived from a book called the Wan Nian Li (萬 年 曆). While the lunar calendar can radically vary in its "New Year," the closer the corresponding solar marker of Li Chun, (Coming of Spring) reinforces the strength of the transformation and impact of Seasonal Qi. Yin & Yang energy expresses the "New Year" and changes over from last year's White Metal Rabbit Qi to this year's Black Water Dragon Qi. What does this mean for Water Dragon Ren Chen(壬 辰)? The year of 2012 will be a dynamic and constantly changing period. Ren Chen is one of the Fui Kong (Chief) Pillars, as well as the year column mean the year of slow, challenges and steady going. It represents a mountain capable of bearing life with an overabundance of water. Chen gives a perspective of potential growth. While you may read about 2012 in many arenas as a year of uncertainty, "tough times" and the overall arching theme of many unknowns, the key thing to recall that we can all "Train our Dragons" with the right guidance, strategy and vision. We welcome you to these days of the Black Water Dragon. Let our study of the past inform and have the present thrive in our daily lives.
The above is an excerpt from my clinic newsletter.
Ren Chen (壬 辰) and Okinawa Kenpo
The first kata we teach in our system is Sanchin, (the form that does the funny hissing breathing sound when striking). Most adults and all the children know this form in class. Okinawan Karate has many martial art influences including those from southern China. These roots can be traced back to specific "animal" forms of antiquity which have now been lost to time. Those animal forms include the Dragon, Tiger and Crane. We teach Sanchin for health, longevity and building stronger muscles and bones. Practice your Sanchin everyday. Even teach your parents how to do it!
Announcements:
I returned back from Texas several weeks ago from a Karate seminar that my father and mother held. There were lots of chief instructors from all over the US including Alaska and Puerto Rico. It was great! I learned alot about teaching and myself and our roles as students and teachers.
