April newsletter 2012
Okinawa Kenpo Karate Kobudo Renme
Shigeru Nakamura - founder
Seikichi Odo - supreme instructor
Taketo Nakamura - grandmaster
Neco Medes Flores - President
Elodia Flores - President of all karate women
Here I am, Sensei N. Flores, in Greensboro NC at Jim Wall's dojo giving a seminar. Their kata looks okay. I saw Kieth Foust an old time student of Jim Wall. Last time I saw Kieth Foust was in 1995. He is the one who used the sanchin powers to throw several attackers away from him using his chi. Chi means ki in Japanese ... in hogan, the Okinawan dialect, you say "chin" as in San Chin. Sensei Odo told me once "... you never have to fight ... you just do sanchin and kata." Kieth never touched the attackers, they just flew backwards and were very scared. San Chin means 3 battles, 1) train your muscles, 2) train your spirit, and 3) train your mind.
Chain of command in Okinawa Kenpo as it stands until Taketo Nakamura changes it is like in the newsletter heading:
Shigeru Nakamura is the founder of Okinawa Kenpo.
Seikichi Odo is the supreme instructor, because in Okinawa karate ancestor worship religion. Sensei Odo teaches us the kata every day through his 8mm, VHS, and now transferred to DVD. We also follow his regime of training which Shigeru basically taught him. So, Okinawa Kenpo will have an unchanging original standard to teach in the traditional and original way of Okinawa Kenpo.
Taketo Nakamura is recognized as the head of Okinawa Kenpo by heritage and custom. He is the son of Shigeru Nakamura.
Neco Medes Flores is the president of Okinawa Kenpo Karate Kobudo Renme due to the fact that he was appointed to this position in 1980 in Okinawa.
Elodia Flores is president of the women's division. She started with me, her boy friend in 1965, now her husband since 1967 Dec 9, and then continued her karate training with Sensei Odo in Okinawa in 1976 until March 24 2002.
There is an Okinawan style shiai coming up in Puerto Rico. This is not a sports karate tournament ... it's a traditional old time Okinawa Karate tournament as practiced before 1945 and continues without change. Everyone performs one kata, one weapon kata, and one fight(kumite). No trophies. Belts are given only it they meet the requirements as set down and standardized in the manual of Okinawa Kenpo Karate Kobudo. This type of karate instills self-discipline, health, mental stability, and courage while at the same time one learns self-defense for the street using the bogo (equipment for practicing a real fight.) also 99% of the real fights are of a daily solutions of everyday problems and emergencies. For example, a student of mine, Kenith Blevins, who works in the oil fields was once climbing up a ladder of a 30 foot battery (a large container that holds gas and oil) which is very explosive. As he was climbing up the ladder, lightning struck and one of the batteries caught on fire, so this is an emergency. So karate training kicks in and he says, Ichi Ni San ... Ichi - go get fire extinguisher, Ni - climb up battery, San- put out fire. ... problem solved. This is what karate is for ... to solve common and uncommon problems.
